Associates in Dermatology Lab Lands Prestigious Accreditation
February 6, 2015
Associates in Dermatology Laboratory in Kissimmee, Florida recently landed accreditation from the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the nation’s leading organization of board-certified pathologists. After a thorough on-site accreditation inspection of its state-of-the-art lab, AID now proudly joins more than 7,600 CAP-certified medical facilities worldwide.
CAP was founded in 1961 by a group of pioneering pathologists who sought to raise the quality of medical laboratory services here in the United States and internationally. Today, the US federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being as effective, and in some ways even more stringent, than its own compliance inspection program. Laboratories that successfully land accreditation are those that adhere to the highest possible standards, as evidenced by results of strict inspections of a lab’s facilities, safety programs, lab equipment, staff qualifications, patient records and overall management guidelines. CAP inspectors also conduct a thorough review of an applying lab’s quality control for all procedures and record keeping for the previous two years.
“This award is well deserved,” said Associates in Dermatology Medical Director, Michael Steppie, MD, noting exemplary leadership by AID Laboratory Director Grigory Gelikman, MD. “Dr. Gelikman and his staff work hard to ensure our laboratory provides the highest level of anatomic pathology and dermatopathology services for Associates in Dermatology patients throughout Central Florida and Greater Orlando area.”
At the newly accredited lab, Dr. Gelikman and his highly trained staff analyze biopsied tissue and interpret medical tests completed by other Associate in Dermatology physicians throughout the Middle District of Florida. Skin cancer diagnoses are also performed by AID dermatopathologists, dermatologists or mohs surgeons to determine the safe and complete removal of affected areas.
The Associates in Dermatology Laboratory is a key tool in helping to save the lives of skin cancer patients throughout Florida and beyond. If you or your loved one is facing this potentially deadly disease, rest assured that a CAP-accredited facility like the AID Laboratory means you’re in the best of hands when it comes to your medical care.
