Safe Dermatology for You and Your Family Members
December 29, 2020
The pandemic was unprecedented, and being such, it required our physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, staff members, and patients to embrace change. Lowering the risk of coronavirus infection while maximizing our efficiency for delivering the highest quality of clinical and cosmetic dermatology was our goal in 2020. Every day, the dedicated team at Associates in Dermatology focused on minimizing the risk that our patients faced when presenting to any of our Central Florida locations.
The pandemic highlighted the extent to which protecting our providers and patients is key to ensuring functioning healthcare systems for you and members of your community. Guided by recommendations from infection-prevention experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we have taken several steps in addition to standard infection control measures to ensure our offices remain safe places to receive dermatologic care in the most convenient way possible.
Telehealth Medicine for Those More at Risk
In addition to establishing new standards for patient safety, we implemented innovative solutions by applying the latest technology. Since telemedicine was the most obvious option to replace an in-office visit, Associates in Dermatology acted quickly at the beginning of the pandemic to provide timely tele-health appointments to patients that were more at risk for coronavirus. Nonetheless, there are limitations to the patient-provider communications when utilizing telehealth medicine versus in-person dermatologic care, so we look forward to the new normal that 2021 brings.
Most of our patients prefer to be seen in person and usually want to schedule an appointment as quickly as possible. Our commitment is always to provide the care each patient needs, and when they need it, while following strict standards to avoid compromising anyone’s health or safety. These include pre-appointment screenings, new check-in procedures, required masks for patients, masks for staff, plenty of hand sanitizer and lots of cleaning, as well as applying the latest technology. Common areas and waiting rooms, are meticulously cleaned, and sanitized every day following rigorous infection control measures. Examination rooms are cleaned and disinfected between each patient. We also have made special arrangements to support social distancing during your visit.
Contactless & Paperless Technology
Coronavirus did provide the world with a quick glimpse of what healthcare may look like in the new normal. By nurturing healthcare technology as a benefit, Associates in Dermatology has introduced a contactless and paperless option for our patients to complete his or her pre check-in paperwork or make hassle-free payments from the comfort of their home. Health iPASS is an easy-to-use cell-based technology that also allows you to receive appointment reminders, complete medical forms prior to an appointment, or check on insurance processing. Now, you can see your exact out-of-pocket financial responsibility and make secure payments knowing all your information is fully encrypted to an electronic token. Moreover, for enhanced security, once your bill is paid in full the electronic token is deleted. That way, financial information is not kept on file.
“With Health iPASS, managing appointments and medical costs for you and your family has never been easier,” says Dr. Michael Steppie, the President and Medical Director of Associates in Dermatology. “We implemented the new patient-friendly technology during the last quarter of 2020, which included our most recent practice in Winter Garden. Between safety concerns for our patients and the anticipation of first-of-the-year insurance updates, implementing a convenient and time-saving platform for our patients was an obvious benefit. Plus, this provides a contactless and paperless option that lets you check in while eliminating the paper trail that has become a thing of the past. In 2021, our practices will continue to stay on top of cutting-edge treatments and new healthcare technologies that deliver optimal customer care and convenience.”
Associates in Dermatology Ranked as Super Performers
In addition to being selected as TOP PHYSICIAN by Orlando Family Magazine for the fourth consecutive year, Associates in Dermatology is proud to announce that our group received the status of Super Performers ranked in the top percentile (above 90%) MIPS scoring for several consecutive years from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). In keeping with the CMS pledge to put patients first, the government agency adopted a new merit-based incentive payment system (MIPS) where performance is measured through the data clinician’s report in four critical areas. CMS program goals include empowering patients to work with their doctors and make health care decisions that are best for them. The MIPS score is derived from the quality of care the clinician delivered, how well they enhanced patient engagement, utilization of electronic exchange of health information, and the cost of the care provided. At this time MIPS reforms are directed toward Medicare providers, but its success will likely lead to system-wide changes in applying value-based methods across other public and private sectors.
Looking Forward to Serving You in 2021
As we begin the new year, Dr. Michael Steppie and the dedicated healthcare providers at Associates in Dermatology want to thank our loyal patients for everything they have done to keep themselves and their community safe during these unprecedented times. Once restrictions are completely lifted, some of the new innovative practices that served well during the pandemic will remain unchallenged, while others will naturally revert to previous ways of doing things. Here at Associates in Dermatology, we will remain diligent in providing the highest quality of care while keeping our patients safe.
